A Chattooga County man has been arrested following an investigation into multiple fires reported at a vacant property on 228 Weems Road.

According to an incident report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, 54-year-old Tony Trammell was taken into custody on January 25 and charged with reckless conduct, false statements and writings, and concealment of engaging in certain activities relating to the use of fire.

The report states deputies and local fire departments responded to a structure fire at the address on January 25 and determined the building was an abandoned mobile home and storage shed. Investigators say evidence at the scene indicated the fires were intentionally set, and additional fires were later reported nearby. During the investigation, Trammell allegedly admitted to setting multiple fires in the area over a short period of time, including one that caused damage to nearby trees and created safety concerns for surrounding properties.

Authorities say Trammell later provided statements that conflicted with earlier information and admitted to starting the fires on property he claimed to own. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Chattooga County Jail.
