A Summerville man was arrested New Year’s Day following a disturbance at a local motel that resulted in property damage and multiple law enforcement responses, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Deputies were first dispatched to the Summerville Motel on U.S. 27 around 7:42 p.m. on January 1 in reference to a domestic-related call involving a man reportedly threatening self-harm. Deputies made contact with 42-year-old Jousha Lee Bryan, who appeared to be intoxicated. According to the report, Bryan stated he was not attempting to harm himself but asked for help related to substance abuse. Emergency Medical Services were contacted for a mental health evaluation before the scene was initially cleared.

Later that evening, at approximately 10:31 p.m., deputies were called back to the motel for another disturbance involving the same individual. Upon arrival, deputies observed a broken window in Room 110, where Bryan had been staying. The report states the window appeared to have been broken from inside the room, with glass shattered outward.

Motel staff told deputies that Bryan had been running through the property, banging on doors, and yelling, disturbing other guests. Bryan was taken into custody and charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.
