A LaFayette man was arrested by Chattooga County deputies this week after he was found driving in the wrong lane on Highway 27.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, a be-on-the-lookout call was placed for a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 27 north of Wal-Mart.  When deputies responded they found a white Lexus traveling about 20 miles-per-hour in the wrong lane.  The driver crossed over the center line several times during the slow-speed pursuit.

The deputy activated his lights and followed the vehicle down Highway 27.  The driver activated his blinker to turn in near Reece Tires but continued to travel to the parking lot of Burger King before stopping.

Seventy-eight-year-old William Frederick Peacock told the deputy that he had gone to the movies and was travelling home to LaFayette.  When the deputy asked Mr. Peacock if he knew where he was, the driver replied “Fort Oglethorpe”.

Peacock was arrested for DUI and operating a vehicle without proper registration, along with other driving violations and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
