A man who used his car to ram another vehicle repeatedly during an 11:30 a.m. chase along Turner McCall Boulevard into Rome Thursday is facing felony charges, police said.
“It was road rage, basically,” Rome PFC Carl Davis said. “It was a family argument and they brought it out on the road. Luckily, no one was injured.”
Davis said the driver of the green Ford Escort LX — arrested in the parking lot of Payless Shoe Source on Turner McCall Blvd. at Riverbend Drive — would be charged with aggravated assault charges, and other charges are likely “after we investigate a little more.”
The alleged victim, who identified himself as Randy Wayne Cook of Calhoun, said the chase started at the Walmart Superstore on U.S. 411.
Cook was driving a black Ford Expedition 4×4 and towing a trailer.
He said he was pumping gas at Walmart when the man, a former family member by marriage, accosted him and asked for $200 to pay his power bill.
Cook said he refused — but when he left the lot the driver allegedly followed him, cut him off and repeatedly rammed his vehicle as he continued driving.
Police were alerted by a cell phone call from a passenger in the Expedition. A juvenile in the Escort also was taken into custody.
Police said more information would be available later.
