A Chattooga County man was arrested following a domestic-related dispute between neighbors that escalated into alleged threats and a physical altercation, according to a sheriff’s office report.

Deputies with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded on March 11 to a call on Smallen Road regarding a domestic situation in progress between neighbors.

According to the report, upon arrival deputies spoke with a neighbor who said Marcus Richards and Amanda Richards had been involved in ongoing issues. During the incident, Marcus Richards allegedly threatened to shoot the neighbor, while Amanda Richards was accused of pushing him.

Authorities say witness statements and security camera footage from the scene helped corroborate parts of the complaint. Deputies also reviewed video provided by both parties. After evaluating the evidence, officers determined that the threat to shoot was made by Marcus Richards.

Richards, 41, was taken into custody and charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts, a felony offense. Amanda Richards is expected to face a charge of simple battery under the Family Violence Act.

During transport to the jail, an additional incident occurred when a patrol vehicle carrying Amanda Richards left the roadway and struck a tree. Both the deputy and Amanda Richards reported injuries, and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. The deputy sustained a laceration, while Amanda Richards was transported for medical evaluation.

Marcus Richards was transported to jail without further incident. Authorities say warrants are expected to be taken for Amanda Richards.

The case remains under investigation by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
