A 34-year-old Chattooga County man, Tracy Alan Maples, was arrested Sunday, October 5, 2025, after being located by Chattooga County deputies who were executing an active warrant. The situation quickly escalated when a search incident to the arrest uncovered illegal narcotics, including a substance that field-tested positive for both Methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

Maples was initially sought on a warrant for Failure to Appear in Chattooga County.

According to the incident report, the initial encounter occurred while a deputy was responding to an unrelated suspicious persons call near Marvin Avenue and Goodwin Drive. The deputy observed Maples—whom he identified from previous interactions—and requested Chattooga County E911 to check for active warrants.

Confirmation of an active Failure to Appear warrant was received shortly thereafter. However, when Deputy Garmany and Cpl. Fielding returned to the initial location, Maples had left the area.

Location and Discovery

Officers later located a subject matching Maples’s description, including a bicycle, at the George’s Quik Station. Deputies entered the store and found Maples in the back gaming room.

Upon being advised of the warrant, Maples was instructed to place his hands behind his back. According to the report, Maples reached toward his right pocket before officers secured his wrists.

During a pat-down conducted, a glass smoking device containing residue was found inside Maples’s right pants pocket—the area he had allegedly reached toward.

When questioned about any other contraband, Maples reportedly admitted that he had additional items in his right sock. Officers located a plastic baggie inside the sock containing a white, crystal-like substance. The substance was field-tested at the scene and yielded positive results for both Methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

Formal Charges

Tracy Alan Maples was subsequently transported to the Chattooga County Jail without incident. The entire sequence of events was captured by the arresting officer’s body-worn camera (BWC).

Maples now faces the following charges in addition to his prior Failure to Appear warrant:

Possession of Methamphetamine
Possession of Schedule II Drug(s) (Fentanyl)
Possession of Drug Related Objects Prohibited
