A Summerville man was arrested and jailed after damaging items in a home, fighting with his family and then fleeing the scene.

According to a report released yesterday, the incident happened on Saturday when police responded to a domestic dispute on Fulmer Street.  When police arrived on the scene, they saw a man in a t-shirt and shorts walking behind a building before fleeing into the woods.

As police talked with the family, family members said that after damaging property at the residence, the suspect had jumped on his father’s vehicle while family members were trying to leave the volatile situation.  The suspect came through the car window and struck his father in the chest.  At that point, the father drew his firearm and told the suspect to step away from the vehicle.  The suspect became more belligerent and damaged the car’s mirror.  He then exclaimed, “I don’t care, I will kill us all”.

The father told police he was in fear for his life.  Police eventually located the suspect who admitted to consuming a large amount of alcohol previous to the altercation with his family.  Jacob Riley Smith was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.  After he was already booked in the jail, the arresting officer found a bag of marijuana in the patrol car.  Smith admitted that the marijuana was his and was charged additionally with misdemeanor marijuana possession.
