A 33-year old Rome man was jailed Sunday on charges of 1st degree cruelty to children.

According to Floyd County Jail reports, Robert Joseph Heagle, of a Center Road address, forced a child under the age of 10 to the ground, causing visible wounds to the child's face.

The mother of the child intervened and Heagle allegedly struck her, causing her to fall to the ground.

All of this reportedly occurred in the presence of two other children, who were both also under the age of 10.

Heagle is also charged with simple battery and 3rd degree cruelty to children.
