A Summerville man was charged with DUI after wrecking on York Road last Saturday. According to the report from the accident, which was realeased yesterday, 45 year-old James Eugene Franklin of Summerville was traveling on a "downgrade" on York Road when he crossed the center line in a 1995 Jeep Wrangler leaving the roadway. Franklin then traveled down an embankment and struck several large trees.
The Jeep began to rotate and vaulted into the air. Frankline was ejected out the window while the Jeep was in the air. The Jeep came to rest in the driveway of 1001 York Road. Franklin suffered head injuries from the collission and was taken to Redmond Regional Medical Center by Redmond EMS.
During the accident a Windstream Communications junction box was damaged. Georgia State Troopers issued Franklin a citation for Driving Under the Influence and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane.
