Last week, the Summerville Police Department released a report about a violent domestic incident earlier this month that ended with a man in jail after being accused of beating, choking and spitting on his girlfriend.
Police say that they responded to a Martin Street address about a physical altercation in progress. When they arrived on the scene and talked with witnesses, they determined that forty-one-year-old Kenneth Edgeworth had been beating his girlfriend.
Officers located the woman who said that Edgeworth had tried to strangle her and had beaten her that day in two different locations.
Edgeworth denied the accusations, but police said there was enough physical evidence and witness corroboration to charge him with aggravated assault for strangulation, battery under the Family Violence Act and simple battery.
Police said that Edgeworth and the victim were in a domestic partnership.
