In April of this year, local law enforcement were notified about a stolen motorcycle in Summerville.  An investigation involving the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Troopers and the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force revealed information that lead law enforcement to believe the stolen Husqvarna motorcycle was taken by Dexter Cody Crabtree of Trion.

A short time after the theft, a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted Crabtree on Highway 48 between Cloudland and Menlo on the stolen motorcycle and attempted to make a traffic stop.  Crabtree fled from the deputy and turned onto Shinbone Valley Road in Menlo.  After a few minutes, Crabtree came to a stop and as law enforcement approached him, he reportedly blurted out “I didn’t steal the truck but I did steal this” – speaking of the motorcycle.

Crabtree was taken into custody and charged with the theft.

This past week, Crabtree was sentenced in Chattooga County Superior Court to three years in prison and seven years probation.  Crabtree was also ordered to participate in alcohol and drug treatment and pay $14,000 in restitution to the owner of the motorcycle.  He was also charged with a $404.50 fine.
