A truck driver, Parvinder Singh, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 18 years probation for causing a fatal accident in Floyd County on May 2 that resulted in the death of Letha Lamb of Calhoun.

Singh pleaded guilty to a first-degree homicide by vehicle charge. The accident occurred when Singh was driving the wrong way on Ga. 53, and other drivers tried to warn him by flashing their brights. Singh had a blood-alcohol level almost double the legal limit. During the sentencing hearing, Letha Lamb’s husband and daughter spoke about the devastating impact of her death. Singh took responsibility and expressed remorse, offering to help the victim’s family. However, Judge Sparks noted the severity of the crime, stating that Singh’s actions were reckless and likened it to pointing a firearm.

Despite Singh’s remorse and plea for leniency due to not seeing his family in five years, Judge Sparks believed the sentence was fair and necessary, considering the irreparable loss suffered by the victim’s family.
