A man was taken to Floyd Medical Center Monday morning after the truck he was driving hit a train at the railroad tracks at U.S. 41 and Ga. 156 in Calhoun.

A small pick-up truck went around the gate at the railroad tracks at 7 a.m. and was struck by a southbound train. The truck was dragged several feet before hitting the railroad crossing post on the opposite side of initial impact and breaking the gate. Pieces of the truck were scattered along the side of the tracks and down the embankment. An unidentified 60 year old man was taken to Floyd Medical Center and his condition is not known.

Officials with the railroad said that they would stop all trains at the intersection and direct traffic until the railroad gate could be repaired.
