Chattooga County Deputies possibly kept a man from doing harm to himself and others on January 19.

According to the police report, deputies were dispatched in reference to a man that was threatening to do harm to himself and anyone who tried to stop him. The caller to E-911 was the man's mother who was following him in a vehicle down Highway 27. When said she lost him front of Ingles but thought he was traveling towards the Taylor's Ridge area possibly heading home to Farmersville Road. The man reportedly was armed. Deputies reportedly were dispatched to where the man had been that night and where he was possibly going.

Deputies were in the area of Johnson road when they were flagged down by the man's mother, They found out the man had been to his brother-in-law's home on Hair Lake Road. Deputies were dispatched to that area and Sheriff Mark Schrader and Chief Deputy Kevin Wood also arrived to assist in the Hair Lake Road and Sunny Dale Road areas.

 

It was soon discovered that the man was in a vehicle with his brother-in-law and the brother in law had taken the weapon from him. On foot deputies walked up to the brother in law's residence and after a few minutes saw the two men drive back from a field to the residence and walk inside. It was learned by phone that the men expected deputies to go to the residence. When deputies did enter the home they said they were there to "just talk," but the man said he was fine, "so get the hell out of here."  Alcohol was detected on the man according to the report.

 

The man was transported to Floyd Medical Center in Rome for an evaluation because he did make threats to harm himself and others, according to the report. In one instance, the man had sent a picture to his mother of him holding a revolver to his forehead, the report indicated. No arrest was made in the incident.
