Northwest Georgia will have new representation in the United State Congress.  Marjorie Greene will be taking over today from ten-year congressional veteran Tom Graves.

Graves, a Republican who entered Congress as a conservative firebrand, has moderated his tone during the course of his tenure representing one of the most conservative congressional districts in the United States.  In fact, Graves told the Rome News Tribune over the weekend that he is most proud of his accomplishments as co-chair of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress.  Graves said that the committee is “truly bipartisan” and works to foster a spirit of cooperation between the two major parties in order to advance legislation for the American people.

Greene has shown little interest in bi-partisanship so far.  Greene frequently attacks anyone that doesn’t share her brand of conservative politics.  She received some backlash after she publicly referred to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with a pejorative, derogatory slang word.  Yesterday, Greene was sworn in to 117th United States Congress as a member of the House of Representatives.

Greene rented a townhouse in downtown Rome when she decided to switch her bid for Congress from where she lived in the Sixth District, to the Seventh District, which includes Chattooga and surrounding counties.  Greene reportedly moved out of her rented townhouse in Floyd County over the past week.

It remains to be seen if Congresswoman Greene’s rhetoric will moderate compared to Candidate Greene and if she will follow the path of Congressman Graves in seeking bipartisan solutions.
