Georgia is set to allow independent pharmacies to sell medical cannabis but the Federal government issued a memorandum that has some of those pharmacies thinking twice about selling THC oil that is more than 0.3%. Georgia law allows for the sale of cannabis with a strength up to 5% THC, but up until recently, there was no legal way to dispense that product to those who need it.
Georgia started letting independent pharmacies across the state register to sell the more potent THC products in November, but last week, the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration issued a memorandum saying any pharmacy selling any cannabis products above the 0.3% level could be in violation of Federal regulations.
That now has some small pharmacies that were seeking the state’s approval for the medical marijuana license to second-guess their decision.
The Georgia Pharmacy Association said in a letter that the DEA warning “puts Georgia’s pharmacies in a difficult position.”
