Chattooga County has had modest commercial growth this year with the recent opening of two new pharmacies in Summerville as well the future new Dollar Tree location between our 2008 expansions of Marvins and Aarons just north of downtown, according to Chamber of Commerce President David Tidmore.
Many commercial establishments have relocated to previously distressed properties with the relocation of the Dennis Law Firm, Owens & Bowen Accountants, the Cook & Connelly Annex, and Trendsetter’s on Economy Street.
Tidmore said that former empty commercial locations north of downtown are now being filled with new businesses. Tidmore said that he hopes that trend continues. He added "We’re certainly not where we want to be at this point but it’s like when my daughter took her first steps. It wasn’t anything pretty, but we all jumped for joy! "
