Mohawk Industries announced yesterday that they are expanding an existing manufacturing plant in Alabama and will create 130 new jobs.

The Mohawk Plant in Roanoke, Alabama was originally a carpet-backing operation and will now house yarn conversion operations as well.

“Our yarn facilities are very important, as they start our carpet manufacturing process,” Mohawk senior VP of manufacturing Todd Shail said. “When we decided to expand our yarn production to help meet customer demand, our Roanoke location was the perfect choice because of the talented workforce here and in the surrounding counties. We’re thrilled to be expanding and creating new jobs and opportunities.”

Mohawk operates two facilities in Chattooga County – one in Summerville and another in Lyerly.
