Mohawk is certainly putting their money where their mouth is – by investing another $250 million dollars into the local economy. 

The Summerville News is reporting that number will push the company’s total investment in the Summerville and Lyerly plants to more than $450 million over the coming years, per the Chattooga County Development Authority.

The original plan was a $200 million investment that would yield 470 jobs by 2018; details of the expansion are still being closely guarded, but it appears Mohawk could be looking at purchasing additional property.   

The paper reports that County Attorney Arch Farrar, stated to the Development Authority –  “From the authority’s standpoint you are creating more jobs – but you are also assuring the people of the county that they are going to have a job…Mohawk, putting this kind of money in the county, they are going to stay here.”

Mohawk has thus far created 320 and has until 2018 to meet the 470 mark.
