Chattooga County saw a spike in COVID-19 related deaths over the weekend according to the numbers released by the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The numbers came after the Department of Public Health dropped the “high transmission” area rating for Chattooga County last week.  Two adjacent counties, Floyd and Walker County are now on that list of “high transmission” areas.

The total number of COVDID-19 deaths is now at 21 deaths.  Five of those deaths were reported on Wednesday of last week with one more reported on Friday and three on Saturday.  See more information here.

There are now 762 known cases of COVID-19 in Chattooga County, as of yesterday.

Coronavirus is now one of the three leading causes of death since February, when the nation had its first death from COVID-19. The virus has killed more than 180,000 people since then, making it a leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
