A thirty-five-year-old former Chattooga County Deputy was arrested this week on drug charges.  Marvin Armstrong, a resident of Summerville who was currently serving as a Cave Spring, Georgia Police officer, was booked into the Floyd County Jail.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader confirmed to WZQZ News that Armstrong was terminated in August of this year.  That termination was right after Armstrong was involved in an accident in Floyd County.  Armstrong was not at fault in the accident that killed an eighty-seven-year-old Trion woman, but Sheriff Schrader said that Armstrong’s termination was “basically, failure to complete job duties”.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations issued an arrest warrant that states Armstrong contacted fifty-two-year-old Terry Lee Wheeler of Floyd County in an attempt to purchase drugs on November 17th of this year.  According to the GBI, Armstrong was trying to procure Percocet tablets and was “participating in multiple drug transactions in Rome, GA, and surrounding areas”.

Cave Spring Police, speaking to the Rome News Tribune through their city attorney commented on Armstrong’s status as a Cave Spring Police Officer saying, “The city recently became aware of the situation with Mr. Armstrong, and it is working to address this situation in accordance with its policies and procedures”.
