Drivers under the influence could have contributed to the head-on crash on Highway 48 in Summerville last week. The accident involved two vehicles and four people were transported with injuries.
Summerville Police say that a vehicle driven by Mario Alvero, Jr. of Tucker, Georgia was struck head-on by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Michael Andrew Weaver of Summerville. Alvero told officers that the Ford truck crossed over the center line and struck his vehicle.
Weaver admitted to police that he had been helping his juvenile daughter with her I-pad and crossed over the center line.
Police say that Alvero admitted to drinking a Corona alcoholic drink earlier in the day before the accident. Mr. Weaver admitted to taking “several” prescription Hydrocodone’s prior to the accident.
Weaver was cited for DUI, DUI-child endangerment and failure to maintain single lane.
There were no life-threatening injuries from the accident.
