Local law enforcement arrested several for driving under the influence over the past weekend. The Trion Police Department, Summerville Police Department, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol all reported DUI arrests in the county between Friday and Monday morning.
Statistics show that August typically has more DUI arrests than any other month, across the nation.
The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration says that while August is not the deadliest month of the year on the nation’s roadways, the time period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known as the “100 deadliest days” of Summer. In keeping with those statistics, Memorial Day ranks as the deadliest day on the roads and Labor Day is the second-most deadly day.
Over the past weekend there were a total of seven arrested for driving under the influence on Chattooga County’s roadways.
