Chattooga County has a new animal control officer in place.  Aubrey "Smitty" Smith, a former Trion Police patrolman is now working for the county’s animal control department.  Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that the addition of Smith to the department will allow for more efficient animal control services throughout the county.

Smith will be working with personel already in place at animal control and will be responsible for enforcing animal control policies in the county.  Smith’s background in law enforcement began with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department where he has served as a deputy under two previous administrations and his time at the Trion Police Department.  In addition to his jobs in law enforcement, Smith has worked for many years for Camelot Farms and has lived in the area since 1975.

Currently Chattooga County provides animal control services on a contract basis for several municipalities in the county.
