The family of New Publishing Company internet websites, which included the Rome News-Tribune and Calhoun Times, were down on Monday. The issue appears to be a Domain Name System (DNS) problem.

DNS is a standard technology for managing the names of Web sites and other Internet domains. DNS technology allows you to type names into your Web browser like coosavalleynews and your computer to automatically find that address on the Internet. A key element of the DNS is a worldwide collection of DNS servers.

The problem apparently began on Monday. An attempt to contact News Publishing for information as to when the problem would be resolved was unsuccesful according to the Coosa Valley News.
