North Georgia EMC has announced that they will be suspending disconnections for the month of August because of the continued heat and the fuel cost increase from the Tennessee Valley Authority.

North Georgia EMC is required to purchase all of their power from TVA, who recently announced an additional increase in power rates due to rising fuel prices.  Chattooga County residents, and others in the Northwest Georgia service area, who get their power from North Georgia EMC have seen two rate hikes already this summer.

North Georgia Electric officials said for many households, the month of August is when electricity usage peaks in the summer months due to high temperatures. This timing means the increased TVA Generation Fuel Charge rate will create higher than normal charges for members. They plan to provide members additional time to pay their bill, and suspend disconnections and late payment fees through Labor Day.
