AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio spoke with emergency workers on the scene in Menlo minutes ago. They tell us that while some power lines were blown down and several trees were uprooted, there has been no major damage reported.
Around 6 PM this evening emergency crews had shut down the portion of Highway 337 going up the hill to Menlo School. A power line was across the road and trees and limb debris could be seen on the highway. An officer with the Georgia Department of Transportation was on the scene along with Menlo Fire Fighters.
Earlier in the evening during the storm there were several wrecks reported around the county. One accident was at the cross roads near Marks Hill. AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio will have updates on the accidents when information is released by the Georgia State Patrol.
Strong winds and hail were reported throughout the county. Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that at this time the only word is that there were straight line winds. There has been some speculation as to if there actually was a tornado. The National Weather Service will release information on the storm in the next twenty four to forty eight hours.
