Residents across Northwest Georgia should prepare for another round of isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, a pattern expected to persist briefly before giving way to a significant warming trend that could push temperatures near 100 degrees by early next week.

Much like yesterday, the region is under a “soupy air mass” conducive to the development of scattered convection. While the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has not outlined any risk for severe storms, local weather officials warn that a few stronger storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and torrential downpours.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms is highest this afternoon, mainly between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., with a 50 percent probability. Temperatures are expected to reach a high near 90 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Winds will be calm, becoming east around 5 mph in the morning. Tonight, there’s a slim 10 percent chance of storms before 7 p.m., with skies becoming mostly clear and lows dropping to around 71 degrees. East winds will be around 5 mph, becoming calm in the evening.

Isolated to scattered showers and storms, along with an uptick in cloud cover, are predicted to keep daytime temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s for the next couple of days. Despite sticky dewpoints remaining in the low to mid-70s, heat index values are expected to stay well below the Heat Advisory threshold of 105 degrees for now.

Looking ahead to Thursday, there’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Skies will be sunny, with a high near 93 degrees. Southeast winds will be around 5 mph. Thursday night will see a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., followed by mostly clear conditions and a low around 72 degrees.

Friday brings a slight chance of showers, followed by an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., with a 40 percent probability of precipitation. Mostly sunny conditions are expected, with a high near 91 degrees.

The most significant weather concern shifts to rising temperatures over the weekend and into early next week. A warming trend is forecast to take hold, pushing high temperatures into the mid to upper 90s over the weekend. By early next week, temperatures could soar even higher, with upper 90s to near 100 degrees possible. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and be mindful of the increasing heat as the week progresses.
