Walker County native and country music singer Lauren Alaina had a dream come true over the past weekend.  She was asked to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry – country music’s most revered venue.

Alaina, who attended Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, is the daughter of a musician and has dreamed of becoming a member of the Opry since she was a little girl.  When that dream came true on Saturday, the offer to join the Opry came from another Georgia girl – Opry member Trisha Yearwood.

Alaina has made over 50 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry since she was named runner-up on American Idol back in 2011.

Membership in the Opry is exclusive and is only offered to performers who will make commitments to appear on at least a fairly regular basis.  The Opry is the longest running live radio show in history and has been broadcast on Nashville’s WSM radio station since the 1920’s.  The Opry is also able to be viewed on Circle Television each Saturday night.

Lauren Alaina will be officially inducted into the Opry early next year on a date yet to be announced.
