A Northwest Georgia man has been arrested and charged with 35 counts of sexual exploitation of children following an investigation by the Cartersville Police Department stemming from an online tip.

Dennis Popham was taken into custody by the Cartersville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division earlier this week and has been lodged at the Bartow County Jail.

The investigation began on January 28, 2025, when the Cartersville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division received a critical tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The tip specifically concerned the online download of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

During their investigation, Cartersville Police detectives successfully traced the illicit online activity to an address located within the city limits of Cartersville. This led to the execution of a search warrant at the residence, where authorities seized multiple electronic devices as evidence.

As a direct result of the evidence uncovered during the investigation, Popham was subsequently arrested on Tuesday of this week. He faces 35 counts of Sexual Exploitation of Children, highlighting the serious nature of the allegations.

Cartersville Police Chief Frank McCann expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort, thanking the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Digital Forensic Investigations Unit for their crucial assistance throughout the investigation.
