State Representative Steve Tarvin of Chickamauga is taking some heat for his social media post, criticising teachers who don’t want to teach in-person as schools re-open.

The District 2 Republican wrote:  “Has any other essential industry put up a fight about working like teachers have?  I never saw groups of doctors, nurses, meat packers, truckers or grocery store workers stand up and say they won’t work until there’s a vaccine… and to hell with society”.  He went on to call teachers “self-centered cry babies”.

Tarvin told WTVC news that he was speaking about teachers on a nation-wide level and stands by his comments.

He is running for re-election in November, with no opposition on the ballot.
