Northwest Georgia and Chattooga County continue to grapple with persistent dry conditions today, a pattern that is expected to hold firm over the next seven days despite a slight increase in atmospheric moisture this weekend.

Forecasters confirm that while isolated to scattered rain chances will re-enter the forecast starting Sunday, the region is unlikely to receive any meaningful rainfall through the upcoming week, prolonging concerns over the ongoing dry spell.

Today brings filtered sunshine under abundant high cloud cover, with temperatures peaking near 81 degrees. The dry weather is driven by an upper ridge axis stretching across the Eastern U.S., effectively routing significant weather systems away from the region.

Moisture Returns, But Rain Does Not

The atmosphere is set to feel slightly more humid starting Sunday as a shift in general atmospheric flow begins pushing moisture back into the region from the east-southeast. This change will be immediately noticeable in overnight temperatures, with Sunday morning lows only dipping into the low 60s—several degrees warmer than recent nights.

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 82 degrees. Breezy conditions are also expected, with east winds reaching 5 to 10 mph and gusts potentially as high as 20 mph.

However, residents should manage expectations regarding precipitation. While the forecast introduces the possibility of showers by midweek, the likelihood of significant relief remains low.

“Despite isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms re-entering the forecast, meaningful rainfall is unlikely over the next seven days,” explained meteorologists. “The current pattern limits the ability of these isolated storms to produce substantial, soaking rains needed to alleviate the dry conditions.”

Temperatures Peak Midweek

The trend of warmer-than-average temperatures is set to continue well into the work week. Monday is forecast to be partly sunny, reaching a high near 84 degrees.

The heat is expected to peak on Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and highs climbing near 86 degrees.

The first official slight chance of precipitation arrives late Tuesday night, with a 20 percent chance of showers. Rain chances increase marginally on Wednesday, reaching 30 percent for scattered showers and thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. Wednesday’s high is expected to cool slightly to 82 degrees as the region anticipates the slow approach of a front.

Seasonable temperatures are expected to return only after this front passes later in the week. Until that time, warmer, drier conditions will prevail across Northwest Georgia and Chattooga County. Residents are advised to continue monitoring local conditions before any outdoor burning, due to the persistent lack of rainfall.
