Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia can look forward to a week of delightful, dry weather beginning today, Monday, September 8, 2025. A refreshing wave of dry air will usher in initially lower-than-average temperatures accompanied by breezy conditions, before a gradual warm-up to more seasonable levels by the weekend.

The week kicks off on Monday with lingering clouds expected to gradually mix out as dry air pushes in from the north. Daytime highs across most of the forecast area will be pleasantly cool, settling in the low 80s and upper 70s – approximately 3-5 degrees below the seasonal average for this time of year. As the sun sets, temperatures are projected to drop quickly, with overnight lows reaching the comfortable upper 50s and lower 60s across the region.

A notable feature for Monday will be the wind. A compact pressure gradient on the back edge of a recent cold front will keep northeast winds brisk, generally around 10-15 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 25 mph, with some areas in Northwest Georgia, particularly along peaks and ridges, potentially experiencing locally higher gusts.

Looking ahead, Tuesday and through the rest of the week promise continued dry conditions with virtually no chance for rain. While forecasters aren’t entirely ruling out an isolated shower or storm for far east-central Georgia, the potential for such an event is becoming increasingly low for our region.

Temperatures will gradually warm through the week. Highs are expected to climb from the low 80s on Tuesday into the mid-to-upper 80s by Wednesday and Thursday. By the weekend, temperatures could hover right around 90 degrees in some areas. However, a moderating ‘CAD wedge’ (Cold Air Damming) is anticipated to prevent the return of more intense 90-degree heat seen in areas to the west and south, keeping conditions more manageable. Overnight lows will generally be in the upper 50s through Wednesday night, rising to the lower 60s from Thursday night onwards. Mountainous regions will consistently enjoy cooler conditions, with temperatures typically 5-10 degrees lower than the surrounding areas. Overall, temperatures will remain within about 5 degrees of normal for early September.

Importantly, forecasters confirm that despite the dry and relatively warm conditions later in the week, hazardous fire weather conditions are not anticipated at this time, given favorable relative humidity levels and light wind predictions.
