The holiday collecting season has officially begun in Chattooga County. Continuing a popular tradition that has captured the county’s rich history, the Chattooga County Historical Society (CCHS) has announced the subject of its highly anticipated eighth annual commemorative Christmas ornament: the historic two-story Summerville School.

The announcement, made by the historical society this past week, confirms that the 2025 ornament will pay tribute to one of the community’s oldest and most personally resonant landmarks. The structure has served generations of local students since its establishment in 1915.

“Announcing our new ornament for 2025! It’s the 8th in the series,” the CCHS stated in their official release. “The two-story Summerville School has been around since 1915 and generations of students went to school there.”

The annual ornament series, which began several years ago, has become a cherished way for residents and former residents to celebrate local heritage. Each year, the CCHS selects a landmark of historical significance, turning it into a collectible keepsake that often sells out quickly.

This newest addition joins a distinguished lineup of previous ornaments, solidifying the series as a valuable collection of county history. Past ornaments have commemorated some of Chattooga County’s most recognizable sites, including the historic Chattooga County Courthouse, the Summerville Depot, Lyerly Dam, Taylor’s Ridge, Reigledale Tavern, Alpine Church, and the beloved Tooga Theater.

The CCHS encourages collectors and alumni to purchase the Summerville School ornament early, citing the high demand seen in previous years.

The 2025 ornament is available for immediate purchase at two locations: locally at Sweet Beaux in Summerville, or online through the historical society’s official store at www.chattoogahistory.org/store. Funds raised from the sale of the ornaments directly support the Chattooga County Historical Society’s ongoing mission to preserve and educate the public about local history.
