Goody’s stores in LaFayette and Fort Oglethorpe will close, but it isn’t clear when that will happen.
Managers at the LaFayette store on U.S. 27 and the Fort Oglethorpe store on Battlefield Parkway on Friday said that they could not comment. An employee at one of the local stores said that it could be up to 15 months.
On Friday, the Goody’s Family Clothing chain began the process of liquidating 287 stores nationwide.
In June Goody’s filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and began the process of shuttering more than 60 stores, including three in Chattanooga.
The Chattanooga stores that have been closed were on Gunbarrel Road in East Brainerd, at Eastgate Town Center on Brainerd Road, and on Tenn. 153 in Hixson.
Goody’s is a family business that was started in Athens, Tenn., and eventually branched out to almost 400 stores, until the family sold the chain in 2006.
