Failure to wear a seatbelt leads to a traffic stop which ultimately lead to an arrest for the passenger.

According to reports from the Summerville Police Department, Ashley Sueann Leitner was arrested last week for possession of THC wax.

Officers were on patrol when they observed a Dodge Dakota traveling down Congress Street with the male driver not wearing his seatbelt.  Traveling behind the Dodge, Officers observed that the driver was unable to maintain a single lane, after crossing the yellow line, and so a traffic stop was initiated. Officers observed that the driver of the vehicle, Glennie Spraggins, appeared nervous; his hand was shaking when handing over his license. After asking if anything illegal was in the vehicle, Officers then asked to search the vehicle and consent was given.

A search of the vehicle turned up a cigarette pack containing a burnt, brown cigarette that contained a green, leafy substance suspected to be Marijuana. A search of a pocketbook located in the passenger floorboard revealed a clear ziplock baggy with a red wax material in it. The passenger, Ashely Sueann Leitner, admitted that it was hers first claiming that she didn’t know what the substance was, that it had came from a store. When pressed further, Leitner then changed her story stating that she received the wax substance from a friend. Leitner stated that it was supposed THC and she was using it to help her relax.

Considering Leitners admittance that the red, wax substance was THC, Officers decided to place her under arrest. Leitner was charged with Possession of THC Wax, a schedule 1 Drug. Leitner was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without further incident.
