The total number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Chattooga County. The latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health show that the total is now at 134 cases. That’s up from just over 80 last week.
Two public officials in Chattooga County have said that they have tested positive for COVID-19. State Court Judge Jon Dennis is recovering at home after being diagnosed with the virus on Wednesday of last week. Judge Dennis’ wife, Kristy Dennis – a Summerville City Councilwoman, has tested negative. On Friday, Chattooga County Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux announced that he had tested positive, but is asymptomatic.
Summerville City Hall was closed last week out of an abundance of caution after a volunteer fireman tested positive for COVID-19. Yesterday, Trion Mayor Larry Stansell announced that the Town of Trion’s town hall would be closed this coming week.
Statewide there are now over 165,000 cases in Georgia.
