Even as the overall number of reported COVID-19 cases dropped in the Northwest Georgia area over the past week, there were two additional deaths reported in the region; one each in Floyd and Bartow counties. There were also two “probable” COVID-19 deaths over the past week in the region. Chattooga County saw the total number of reported cases drop to just two this past week. The Georgia Department of Public Health uses the term “reported cases” because some people that use home-test kits and test positive for COVID-19 don’t report those cases to their local health department. Across the state in Georgia, 2,128 new cases were reported to health officials, down from 3,539 the previous week.
