Area health officials believe that 60 percent of the population will eventually contract COVID-19… in Walker County, that means more than 40-thousand cases.
Logan Boss with Northwest Georgia Public Health said “We’re going to see more deaths and more confirmed cases until about 60 percent of the population is infected or vaccinated”. At present, no vaccine is available.
Eighty percent of those infected will have few symptom; but it’s the other twenty percent that healthcare workers are concerned with. The Coronavirus is having a deadly impact on the senior population with underlying health issues.
“People really need to continue to follow the precautions”, Boss said, “including safe physical distancing, avoiding large groups, wearing a mask in public and staying home when sick.”
