On Tuesday, the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health released weekly COVID-19 numbers for the fifteen counties that they serve.
Only three counties showed no increase in COVID-related deaths over the past week: Catoosa, Dade and Chattooga Counties. As of yesterday, there have been 68,678 confirmed COVID cases in Northwest Georgia since the beginning of the pandemic. There have been 1,087 deaths.
The numbers also show that more younger people are contracting COVID-19. The median age of infection has dropped to 40-years old and the median age of death has dropped to 74-years old.
Chattooga County has not reported any COVID deaths in the month of August, but there was an increase of 148 people who had contracted the coronavirus since last week.
