A new slate of officers is in place at the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission as approved by the board at the conclusion of Thursday’s meeting in Calhoun. Former Chairman for the past two-and-a-half year, Billy Croker of Polk County says setting the framework for a new fiber network to span most of the 15-county region is among the greatest recent accomplishments. Croker was honored for his role as chairman during the meeting. The new Chair is Mike Babb from Whitfield County, Vice-Chair is David Austin of Paulding County, Secretary is Al Hoyle of Elijay and Treasurer is Allen Poole from Haralson County. Croker says he hopes to see continued success from the group through cooperative efforts. The council also reviewed changes in financial software and accounting practices for much of the meeting. The upgrades are said to have been needed due to failure of the old system and added challenges with last year’s merger of the two regional commissions.
