The City Council in Ringgold, Georgia met last week and raised the Freeport Tax Exemption in an effort to bring more industry to the town in Catoosa County.  City Leaders are trying to get a jump on any possible manufacturers that may locate in the area from the planned Volkswagon plant scheduled for building in Chattanooga.

Voters in Chattooga County approved Freeport Tax several years ago, however the Freeport Tax has never been implemented in the county.  The Freeport Tax is designed to help manufacturers avoid high taxes on inventory in warehouses that has not been sold.  Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters made Freeport Tax a major issue in his campaign for commissioner and has pledged to begin the measure to bring Freeport to Chattooga County in his current administration.
