The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City, Georgia has confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down in Chattooga County on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The tornado, packing estimated peak winds of 75 mph, impacted the Mountain View area of Trion and the Gore Subligna areas.

The NWS investigation, prompted by reports of widespread tree damage and structural impacts, included a radar data review and a ground survey conducted in coordination with the Chattooga County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). Meteorologist Dave Nadler led the assessment, which involved detailed damage documentation and GPS mapping. The EF0 tornado touched down at approximately 6:40 PM EDT, tracking for 3.93 miles with a maximum width of 250 yards before lifting at 6:50 PM. The damage path included significant tree damage along Mountain View Road and Spring Creek Road, snapped and uprooted trees along Narrows Road up Taylor’s Ridge, and confirmed structural damage on Gore Subligna Road, including a carport being torn from the ground and a tree falling onto a vehicle. Radar imagery corroborated the ground observations, confirming the tornadic rotation in the affected area. While other parts of the county experienced strong winds, only the corridor between Trion and Subligna displayed evidence of a tornado. The storm resulted in power outages for approximately 1,400 North Georgia EMC customers and 166 Georgia Power customers.

Chattooga County Commissioner Andy Allen and Chattooga County EMA expressed their gratitude to emergency responders, utility crews, and Chattooga County Public Works for their rapid response in clearing debris and restoring services to the affected residents.
