Staff Members at Oakview Nursing Home in Summerville
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the designation has even more meaning for the staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Summerville. Recently, the staff of Oakview came together to help one of their own.

When the staff found out that a twenty-eight-year-old CNA, who has lived in Summerville for about two years, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, they decided to do what they could to make the situation better.

Maygun Gibson told WZQZ News that she lives alone with her dog Ollie and has no family in Georgia.  After her diagnoses, she was unable to work and having no support system close by, the staff of Oakview Health and Rehab came together to help her.  The staff members of Oakview sold T-shirts and donated to a GoFundMe account for Maygun.  Maygun said, “That helped pay my bills so I had water and electricity and my rent for two months. Today they threw a bake sale to raise even more money to help me through my treatment. Oakview Health and Rehab has taken a huge amount of stress and worry from me to help me focus on treatment and fighting my cancer. The only way I know how to repay them is to give them credit where it is due.”

In addition, the staff at Oakview held a bake sale recently to raise even more money for Maygun.  She says, “People should know that the staff at Oakview went above and beyond for a member of their nursing staff. I want people to know how amazing Oakview staff is and how much they care for not just their patients but their employees as well.”
