A 60 year old Rome woman, Gussie Turrentine, was arrested Sunday after she called 9-1-1.

Reports indicate Turrentine notified authorities that she was drowning on John Davenport Drive. 

When police arrived they discovered Turrentine had driven her PT Cruiser though a police barrier 

used to close the road. She told officers that she was on the telephone and ended up in the deep water 

before she knew it.  Officers said that after Turrentine refused medical treatment, they noticed a smell 

of alcohol.  

The officer said she then failed numerous field sobriety tests.
