WRGA reports that Wednesday afternoon Floyd 911 dispatch received a report that a person had fallen into a manhole at Armuchee High School.

First responders arrived near the front left side of Armuchee High and found that the individual had fallen at least 20 feet down into the manhole.

An Erlanger Life Flight was called to the side parking lot of the High school while first responders worked to get the individual out.

First responders were laying down on the ground while others used a pulley system to attempt to retrieve the individual.

While reporting in the area, first responders notified WRGA News that the individual had apparently passed away before they could be pulled out of the manhole.

The Floyd County Coroner’s office arrived at the scene and the body of the person was transported by Advent Health EMS to the GBI Crime lab for further examination.

The identity of the individual is not being released at the time of this preliminary report.
