Chattooga County Public Works Director Joe Reed said one lane across the Chattooga River on Taliaferro Springs Road is closed due to repairs.

Reed said he'll know in a couple of days how long the one lane will be closed.

The Georgia Department of Transportation told county officials that the bridge needs some repairs.

Also, the bridge replacement project on Welcome Hill Road continues.

Chattooga County Public Works Director Joe Reed informed us that this is a state mandated project, adding that the new structure is being installed for the long-term safety of all those traveling over that span.

The bridge is located just past the Chattooga River tributary on Welcome Hill Road and that work is expected to be finished in about three weeks time.

While construction is taking place on the new bridge, motorists can take Cummins Road on the East side and Cummins or Tate Road on the West side, and all the alternate routes have been clearly posted so there should be no confusion regarding travel while construction is taking place.

Reed said he greatly appreciates the patience of the public while the work is being done.
