A collision on the new West Rome Bypass near Backs Bluff Road resulted in one person being killed. Reports said that a tractor trailer collided with a 2011 Hyundai Elantra around noon on Tuesday.

The name of the driver is being withheld until family is notified.

Reports said that the Elantra was attempting to cross the bypass on Black’s Bluff Road, heading toward the Lock & Dam, when he was hit by the truck, driven by James Hopkins, of Buchanan, which was heading west.

The unidentified driver failed to yield to the semi, which was heading in the direction of Horseleg Creek Road, Poster said.
