Jury selection was an all day process in Chattooga County Superior Court yesterday. District Attorney "Buzz" Franklin and the Public Defender David Dunn grilled potential jurors with questions regarding their knowledge about the case, the defendant, potential witnesses and even their familiarity with John Jones Road in the Sliver Hill area where Robert "Bob" Packer was found shot to death in June of last year.
Packer's girl-friend Elaine Wilkins is facing murder charges in the case which is the only case left on the docket for Chattooga County Superior Court this session. Wilkins is accused of shooting Packer in the back with his own Colt .45 pistol and calling Chief Deputy Kevin Woods to report the crime. At the time of the shooting last year, AM 1180 reported that Wilkins told the chief deputy "I have a dead body over here and I'm tired of looking at it."
Twelve jurors and one alternate were selected by the prosecution and the defense on Monday. Judge Kristina Graham cautioned the jurors to come to the trial with an open mind and dismissed them until 9 AM Tuesday morning when opening statements from the prosecution and defense will be heard.
