OPPOSITION IS BEING RAISED TO THE PROPOSED CANYON RIDGE HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTER PROJECT.  AN ON-LINE PETITION, ADDRESSED TO "THE WALKER COUNTY COMMISSIONER AND GEORGIA STATE OFFICIALS"… SAYS IN PART:  "THE  UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS OF WALKER COUNTY AND OTHER CONCERNED CITIZENS ARE OPPOSED TO THE USE OF ANY PUBLIC FUNDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A HOTEL – CONFERENCE CENTER ON LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN… OR FOR THE PURCHASE OF A GOLF COURSE OR FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF A GOLF COURSE… AND FOR THE LEASE OF THE MOUNTAIN COVE FARMS PROPERTY FOR A PERIOD GREATER THAN FIVE YEARS.

WE ASK THAT THE COUNTY COMMISSIONER AND THE WALKER COUNTY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OR ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY SEEKING FUNDING FOR ANY OF THESE ACTIVITIES, CEASE THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUCH BUSINESS DEALS OR PARTNERSHIPS."  THE PETITION GOES ON TO ASK FOR TRANSPARENCY IN COUNTY GOVERNMENT AND A "MASTER PLAN" FOR MOUNTAIN COVE… AMONG OTHER POINTS.

THE WALKER COUNTY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY RECENTLY APPROVED THE SALE OF BONDS THAT… ALONG WITH PRIVATE INVESTMENTS IN THE PROJECT… WOULD BUILD THE 150 ROOM HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTER AT CANYON RIDGE.
